Where we began
When ARAG Australia was established in 2015, ASJ spray nozzles were well known in parts of the horticultural market but had very little presence in Australian broadacre agriculture.
Fantastic Nozzles was created to change that.
We started as a specialist nozzle distributor with a clear job: introduce Australian farmers, spraying contractors, machinery dealers and manufacturers to the ARAG-ASJ nozzle range, and provide the knowledge and support needed to use it properly.
We did not open a retail shop. We built a specialist distribution business focused entirely on nozzle selection, advice and prompt supply.
The problem we saw
A spray nozzle is a small component, but choosing the right one is rarely a simple catalogue exercise.
Sprayer type, chemical, rate, speed, nozzle spacing, spray quality and new technologies all affect the decision. Camera-based spot spraying, PWM systems and other advanced technologies have only made selection more specialised.
Farmers and contractors rarely change nozzle brands just because they see another product online. There is almost always a conversation first. Someone needs to understand the job, work through the options and explain why a particular nozzle is suitable. The recommended product then needs to be in stock and ready to go.
What we believed
From the beginning, we believed the best way to build the ARAG-ASJ nozzle business was one customer at a time.
- Give people good advice.
- Keep the products in stock.
- Dispatch them promptly.
- Provide clear installation information and application charts.
- Package the order properly.
- Then remain available when questions arise.
If the customer’s expectations are exceeded, they remember the experience and tell someone else. That has proved more powerful than simply advertising another brand of nozzle.
What we did differently
Fantastic Nozzles built its business around direct access to specialist knowledge.
Farmers and contractors can speak with someone who understands nozzle selection, work through the choices and order directly from available stock. The website supports that process, but it does not replace the conversation.
As customers began specifying ARAG-ASJ nozzles on replacement sprayers, machinery dealers started contacting us to arrange supply. Those dealers valued the prompt delivery, workshop installation diagrams and customer-specific application charts. The same thing occurred with a number of prominent sprayer manufacturers.
Instead of every dealer or manufacturer needing to become a nozzle specialist, they could concentrate on supplying the sprayer while Fantastic Nozzles handled nozzle selection and supply.
When camera-based spot spraying made nozzle selection an even hotter topic, we developed our own software rather than adding another opinion to the argument. That began with the Spot-Spray App and has since grown into SpraySpotter and a suite of free calculators for conventional boom spraying, PWM, three-tier systems and popular camera-based spot sprayers.
The calculators let us and the customer look at the same information while discussing the options. The technology supports the conversation; it does not replace the practical experience behind it.
Where that has taken us
What began as a specialist direct-supply business has developed into several connected channels.
Fantastic Nozzles
Fantastic Nozzles continues to work directly with farmers, spraying contractors, machinery dealers and OEMs across Australia.
Affiliate Network
We have completed the first stage of the Fantastic Nozzles Affiliate Network, with 14 affiliates around Australia. This gives customers access to capable local people while retaining the specialist knowledge, software, product range and supply system developed by Fantastic Nozzles.
FN Wholesale
The next step has been the establishment of FN Wholesale. Through FN Wholesale we have been appointed as ARAG’s official nozzle distributor in the wholesale environment, supporting the existing ARAG distributor network. This brings the same product knowledge, inventory discipline and nozzle-selection support to a broader reseller channel.
Fantastic Nozzles, the Affiliate Network and FN Wholesale are different parts of the same idea: specialist nozzle knowledge should be available wherever the customer chooses to buy.
What it means for the customer
For the customer, the result is straightforward.
They do not have to guess which nozzle might work, wait for somebody to find stock, or piece together advice from several different sources.
They can deal directly with Fantastic Nozzles, speak with one of our Australian affiliates, work through an equipment dealer or purchase through an ARAG distributor.
Behind those channels is the same objective: help the customer select the right nozzle, make sure it is available, and provide the information needed to install and operate it properly.
We are not simply putting nozzles into the market. We are building the specialist support system around them.
Looking ahead
The Australian model has shown what can be achieved when a nozzle brand is supported by specialist advice, available inventory, practical software and people prepared to have the conversation.
In time, the same model could be adapted for other regions. That may involve appointing suitably experienced specialist nozzle distributors, developing nozzle-focused regional websites, localising the calculators for different products and spraying practices, and providing the necessary training and ongoing software support.
Each region would require the right people and a locally appropriate approach. It would not simply be a matter of copying a website or shipping a box of products.
But the possibility is there. If the model can be successfully adapted, more farmers, contractors, dealers and sprayer manufacturers could gain access to both the product and the specialist knowledge needed to use it well.
That is the bigger opportunity: not merely selling more nozzles, but making genuinely useful nozzle-selection support available wherever modern spraying technology is being used.
